Melanie's Losing Her Baby

I found out this morning that Melanie has to lose her baby. She's about 6 weeks along, and she's been in a lot of pain. She's had intense cramping and actually feels like she's going into labor. She went to the hospital the other day when she noticed she was spotting. They did an internal ultrasound and couldn't find the baby, but the embryonic sac is there, just nothing in it. Her hormone level is completely out of whack. Her level shows that she's pregnant, but it's the level of someone who is only one week along. It's at 400 when it should be at least 1200.

They found the baby. It's in the fallopian tube. Her body is trying to expel it on its own, and that's why she's in pain. Today she's going into the hospital to get a shot. A shot that will stop some kind of growth hormone and make the body dislodge the embryo. If that doesn't work, then she'll have to have surgery to remove one whole tube, with the ovary attached, of course.
This is awful and I'm so sad.

When shitty things happen to good people, right?
