More BodyFlow Thoughts

My legs are stronger than I thought they were. Okay, that's an overstatement. They're not strong, but they're stronger than I thought. It's going to take time and effort, but I'll get better. There were a lot of moves that I could only do half-assed, but I tried the best I could.

There's this thing in Yoga called "Sun Salutation". The part I just can't get my body to do is the "cobra", which is when you're on your stomach, and you're lifted up on your toes (or the variation, on your knees) and you lift with your arms to make your chest come off the floor and your back is arched. I just can't arch backwards while I'm on my stomach. I don't know if it's my arms or my back, but it's too contort-y for me. Maybe with time?

Anyway, it's a ton of repetition. That "sun salutation" is done several times, one right after the other. And the tai chi thing, that's just a couple moves, but they are done several times. That really works your thighs, because it's like you're in a squat, and you're rocking back and forth, so that one leg is stretched out, and then alternated. In real tai chi, it's just done once, because it's part of a whole fluid series of moves. So this class just takes a couple of those moves and makes it part of an exercise program. It's the element, but not the actual art.

I can't believe I lasted the whole hour! I sweated a lot, but I wasn't overheated. The a/c was on in the room, so that really helped. The group fitness room is separate from the main floor with the equipment. I like that! Anyway, I didn't experience any symptoms, at all! No numbness, no MS weakness (other than my own weakness from never exercising!). The only time I felt shit start coming on was when I was standing outside of the room, waiting for the previous class to end. Since I was finished with my paperwork earlier than I thought I'd be, I had to wait about 15 minutes. Everyone gathers by the door. So standing still was the "hard part" of the whole night, as far as symptoms go. My feet started to get a little numb and my lower legs started to ache - but that's pretty much a norm for me whenever I go shopping.

Maybe all the activity had my mind off of numbness and aches, and that's why I didn't feel anything. Who cares! I SURVIVED! And I am very proud of myself. Yes, I'm tooting my own horn!!

I really enjoyed myself. But of course, I'm nervous about how my body will do with BodyStep because that is much more fast paced. I don't know if I'm ready for that, but I want to give it a try. There are also a lot of elliptical machines at the gym, and I want to try those. They look neat, but also intimidating. And there are several treadmills, so that's a safe bet! Oh, and there are several tv's set up - so that if you're on the elliptical or treadmills, you can see them. Probably from all the machines, but I haven't scoped the place out that much. They're all on different channels, and they have the caption function running. That's cool.

I thought I had seen recumbent bikes there, but I guess it was the ellipticals - I looked too fast on Sunday. I think the only bikes that they have are the standard stationary bikes in the RPM room. That's a group fitness class - just like a traditional spinning class. I was told that I don't have to follow the recommended resistance increases or speed - that there are others who take the class who don't. But you have to reserve a bike ahead of time, up to one week in advance.

I SURVIVED!
